Properties: A colorless liquid with a strong ammonia-like odor; it tends to fume. Melting point: -60℃; boiling point: 123-133℃ (with slight variations among different sources). Relative density (water = 1): approximately 0.812-0.817 g/cm3. Highly soluble in water; also soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, acetone, and toluene. It is strongly alkaline and can react with acids and oxidizing agents. It is flammable, and its vapor can form an explosive mixture with air; contact with an open flame or high heat can trigger combustion and explosion.
Uses: It is an important organic raw material intermediate. It can serve as both a curing agent and an accelerator for epoxy resins, providing both curing and promotional functions. It can be used in the production of propyl betaines (such as palmitamide dimethylpropylamine), fabric softeners, and leather treatment agents to improve fabric softness and antistatic properties. It is a key raw material for the synthesis of dyes and ion exchange resins, used in textile printing and dyeing as well as wastewater treatment. As a cyanide-free zinc electroplating additive, it is used in electroplating processes for oils, fibers, and leather to enhance coating adhesion and corrosion resistance. It is an intermediate for fungicides such as propamocarb, used in agriculture to inhibit mold growth. In polyurethane materials, it acts as a chain extender and crosslinking agent for manufacturing high-performance products such as waterproof coatings and automotive parts. It is also used in the synthesis of surfactants (such as alkylamides), emulsifiers, and antioxidants, finding wide application in daily chemicals, lubricants, and other fields. |
