Properties: An organic compound that exists as a colorless liquid. Purity ¡Ý 97%. Melting point: -34.2℃. Flash point: 60℃. Initial boiling point: 172.8℃. Unstabilized 4-methylstyrene is flammable and prone to polymerization; it must be stabilized before storage and transportation. Its vapor can form an explosive mixture with air, and contact with open flames or high heat can initiate combustion or explosion. Autoignition temperature: 575℃.
Uses: Primarily used in industrial and scientific research applications, where its stabilization status must be strictly controlled. As a monomer, it is used in the production of p-methylstyrene resins and can replace styrene in the synthesis of poly(p-methylstyrene)-poly(p-methylstyrene) triblock copolymers. It is also used as one of the monomers in coatings manufacturing and synthetic rubber production. Additionally, it can be used as an analytical reagent or a chemical intermediate. |
